Calvin Christian Academy 4th Grade Students and Cloverleaf Courts Seniors building relationships!

The Excellent Educator 2016 winner Jon Kroeze has been teaching fourth graders at Calvin Christian School for 18 years. Jon was featured on WCCO and given his Excellent Educator certificate November 2016.  Jon first started building his relationships with students in Haiti, teaching English for a mission agency. Jon is also the school’s cross country club coach for the last five years. Jon encourages his students to be stewards of the environment.

Kroeze’s biggest mark is not only on his students but on seniors at a 55+ community, Cloverleaf Courts.  Once a month during the school year, Jon’s fourth grade class goes over to the community room at Cloverleaf Courts and visits, play games, share stories and develop long lasting relationships. Kroeze says what he loves about those relationships is the multi-generational learning. “Students learn so many social skills through the visits and relationship building. These relationships are very valuable.” The seniors love it too and will often attend the student’s choir concerts and plays throughout the school year.
