Creating Meaningful Connections at The Crossings at Brookwood!

The Benefits of Eating Together & Socializing at our Monthly “Chat & Chowder” Lunches!

“Chat & Chowder”, as we call our monthly meals, is more than just lunch here at The Crossings at Brookwood.  They have been a tradition here for many years.  Residents look forward to enjoying a delicious catered meal of home-made soup, artisan crafted sandwich and dessert!

Sure, it’s great not to cook!  But did you know there are a variety of benefits and meaningful connections of having lunch with your friends?  For example, here are just a few:

  • Conversations over a meal provide opportunities for residents to connect with each other by getting to know each other more personally, share information and news of the day.  It’s finding things in common or a shared interest that fosters a sense of community and friendship!
  • It can also help you improve your, physical, social, emotional and nutritional health!  People who eat meals together are less likely to suffer from depression. Chatting with your table-mates often leads to laughter, bonding and increased happiness!
  • Expand your taste-buds with new food items! Tuscan Bean Soup, Vegetable Tortellini and Lemon Chicken Orzo soups soon became favorites!  Of course, you can’t go wrong with Chicken Noodle or Chicken Wild Rice or Vegetable Beef & Barley soups which are always big crowd pleasers!
  • Our Chat & Chowder Lunches are also very nutritious and healthy!  Because they are made from scratch, they contain fresh vegetables, herbs, meats and grains.  They can be lower in sodium and high in flavor!  And it’s a good way to get your fiber and Vitamins like A, C and Folate.
