Summit Oaks Angels at Work
It is November and the Holidays are approaching fast along with many events that Summit Oaks has to offer. One event our residents are participating in is the Angel Program sponsored by Granny’s Closet in Anoka. Many of their clients are secluded, living on budgets of less than $150/month, or have simply outlived their friends and family, meaning Christmas can be a sad and difficult time of year for them.
Here's how it works: seniors and disabled adult, with the help of their case manager or residential facility coordinator, fill out a wish list. These lists are sent to Granny's and then matched their wishes to Angels (YOU!) who anonymously purchase and wrap the presents. The clients are asked to keep their wish lists in the $40-50 range. Some of the things the clients ask for are things like clothing, towels, sheets, blankets, body wash & lotion sets, hats & gloves, arts & crafts items, special treats, etc
Our residents sign up to get matched with of the seniors or disabled adult and will have 4 weeks to shop for the client they have. On December 5th Summit Oaks has a gift-wrapping party to wrap all the gifts our resident buy. On December 9th a few residents get together and drop the gifts off at the designated drop of center.
