The Legacy of St. Anthony celebrates our Veterans!

Saturday, May 16th was Armed Forces Day.  At The Legacy of St. Anthony it was an extra special day for our Veterans.  We had a Pancake Breakfast and Veterans Pinning Ceremony.  With the help of Aseracare Hospice and We Honor Veterans we were able to thank each of our Legacy Veterans.  

 

We started the ceremony with everyone standing and singing “The Star Spangled Banner” while we waved flags.  Each Veteran was called up individually and thanked for their service with an American Flag pin and Certificate.  Our Veterans were given the chance to share something with the crowd.  One gentleman talked about our great country and you could see the heads nodding in the crowd!  When another was honored, you could see the tears in his eyes and then the smile and pride on his face.  We honored a “Rosie the Riveter” (a first for Aseracare), it was incredible to watch and hear her stories.  Her son was even seen wiping away tears! Several times during the presentation I got goosebumps and my eyes welled with tears.  Lisa H., who did the pinning ceremony said she has pinned over 250 Veterans and this was the most vocal group!  It was amazing to hear their stories! 

 

Let’s honor our military,

The men and women who serve,

Whose dedication to our country

Does not falter, halt or swerve.

Let’s respect them for their courage;

They’re ready to do what’s right

To keep America Safe,

So we can sleep better at night.

Let’s support and defend our soldiers,

Whose hardships are brutal and cruel,

Whose discipline we can’t imagine,

Who follow each order and rule.

Here’s to those who choose to be warriors

And their helpers good and true;

They’re fighting for American values;

They’re fighting for me and you.
