“Keep the Burn out of Burnsville”

BURNSVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT AWARDED GRANT TO HELP

CURB MULTI-UNIT HOUSING FIRES

The Burnsville Fire Department was recently awarded a $47,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assist in its ongoing multi-unit housing fire prevention and education efforts. The goal of the grant is to help “Keep the Burn Out of Burnsville.”

The city of Burnsville and the Burnsville Fire Department wants to help us provide the safest living experience possible in a multi-unit apartment home.  85% of Burnsville’s apartment fires were the direct result of human behavior.  Therefore, The Rivers is a supporter and participated in their efforts by having all resident’s watch a 12 minute educational video on fire prevention in residents’ homes.  The residents then signed off that they saw the video and understand the educational message the Fire Department was presenting.  All new residents will be asked to watch the video so that they all have a comfort level that their neighbors and they have been properly instructed in fire prevention in our multi-unit housing at The Rivers.

Since 2004, the Burnsville Fire Department has responded to more than 200 multi-unit housing fires. Nearly 80 percent of those fires were caused by human error such as cooking, careless smoking or candles.

This is just one of the many examples of how the The Rivers provides on going educational programing to enhance the lives of our residents.
