As Baby Boomers age to perfection, often they, and the next generation, find themselves taking care of their children and their parents thereby earning the moniker “sandwich generation”.  Many look to assisted living communities to meet the changing needs of the aging population.  Choosing to make such a move need not be a difficult decision.  With Lang Nelson assisted living communities, Transition Healthcare, and Bluestone Physicians at your service, the decision has never been easier.

The Heathers Manor recently received a letter from the daughter of one of their residents commending them for “supporting the ‘Dream Team’ approach to assisted living”:

“…Having cared for my 90 year old mother for several years, the day arrived when I had to make a difficult decision about her continued safety.  After much soul searching, research, and time spent at The Heathers and with the staff, I knew I had found a community in which my mother would thrive.

“…I cannot speak highly enough of everyone whom I have had contact [with] at The Heathers.  Their degree of professionalism, their infectious enthusiasm, and their obvious commitment to creating and maintaining a welcoming residence cannot be denied.  My mother always enjoys the attention she gets and often has stories to tell.  Despite the challenges with dementia, the interactions she has are successful in keeping her engaged with her environment and with the people around her.”

“…The professional medical teams that work at The Heathers Manor are also a blessing.  Both Transition Healthcare and Bluestone Physicians provide other levels of care unlike anything I have experienced before.  [Along] with The Heathers staff, the medical teams keep me informed of any new developments or changes in my mother’s condition.  All are willing and available to meet with me to address my concerns and to answer any of my questions.”

“…I can be a daughter, again.  I can sleep at night.  I can take the time to heal.  My mother feels safe.  She’s comforted in knowing a variety of people care for and about her.”

Letters and stories like these are what drive us to do what we do.

Our “Dream Team” is ready to go above and beyond your expectations!

Let us know what we can do for you!

Students Learn, Residents Benefit

Above: Waterford resident, Art and his family, visit Santa Claus

A special “Thank You” to Social Work student, Sarah Schapiro, for her volunteer work here at the Waterford Manor over her three week holiday break. She is in her second year at Northwestern College in Iowa.  Sarah learned about social work, older adults, dementia care, specialized care, and senior housing. She spent time with the residents here, visited with them, and brought them cheer over the holidays.

From Minot to Minneapolis

Esther Mae’s move to the Waterford was a breeze!!!

One of the Waterford Manor’s newest residents, Esther Mae, was living in Minot, ND in an assisted living apartment for many years.  She had lived in Minot all of her life, where she owned a farm with her family. Her son’s family in Brooklyn Park drove hours to visit her whenever they could, but with work and school it was difficult for the whole family to make the trip often.  Esther Mae’s health changed in December, and she ended up in the hospital with a need to discharge to a more supportive setting than her assisted living.  There were no other openings in the Minot area nursing homes, and the assisted living sites did not provided the specialized care she needs.

On a cold December Monday afternoon, her daughter-in-law from Brooklyn Park stopped by the Waterford on her way home from work. She saw the signs out front of the Waterford that read; “Assisted Care, Memory Care, and Advanced Care” and stopped in learn more about advanced care.  With the coordination of the Waterford Housing Specialist, Resident Services Coordinator, Transition Health Care Team, Hospital care team in Minot, and her loving family, Esther Mae was moving in to her new care suite on Friday morning. She traveled over 500 miles to get to her new home! When asked about her new home here at the Waterford, Esther reports; “I am very happy here, they are all very good to me.”
