Earle Brown Terrace- February 2011
The community around Earle Brown Terrace at 6100 Summit Drive N. in Brooklyn Center, MN, came together this past week. They gathered around a warm fireplace, sharing thoughts and hopes for the area, and they warmed their stomachs with the six different kinds of soup that Ida Marie Restaurant provided free of charge at our first Winter Warm-up/Soup Tasting Event. Hundreds of invitations went out by phone, postcard, and word of mouth, and folks responded in large numbers.
The prevailing question from the many visitors was, why didn’t somebody in the community think of this before? Everyone felt it was good for the community (both business and residential) to gather and share in conversation, and feel the warmth of spirit, and the connection to our forebears that the historic surrounding of Earle Brown Terrace provided. The connections that developed during this event will be lasting.
We believe the goodwill generated at this simple soup tasting will spread throughout the community of Brooklyn Center. This year Brooklyn Center celebrates its 100th birthday as a city. This event is just one example of a yearlong series of special events meant to bring the city together and connect it with its roots. It is most likely that Earle Brown Terrace will make this community gathering a regular monthly occurrence so that we truly do become a “neighborhood” of friends caring for each other.
